Heaven I Know : My Self Portrait

In my self-portrait, I chose to represent myself by filing one of my good friends dancing. I did this because I am a dancer, and it is a very big, (maybe even the biggest) part of my life. Even when I am not in a dance class or performance, I am almost always just improving, or making a dance in my head. I am really amazed by her ability to improv, and just make it up as she goes for 2 whole minutes. I was inspired by Kensie Likes' video, because it gave a glimpse into her life. She also had very steady camera movements, and did really smooth pans. She did good videoing even though she's in the rain.

Some of the elements in my portrait include the following. I turned off the overhead lighting on the front half of the room, and used the flash on my phone to add a little bit of cooler lighting. I did this because it is a very slow smooth song and dance, and having the room a little darker, and her being almost sillouhete-esqe matches the music and her dancing. We recorded it in my friends basement because she had a good amount of room, and hardwood floors there. We also turned on the fire to add warmth and comfort. Durning the video I go on both sides of the room to get the best angles possible. I also think moving the camera ecentuates some of the dancing.

Ultimately, what I hope viewers gain by looking at my work is that dancing is an art and it's really amazing how much emotion and story dancers can show and tell through their work. I also want people to understand that dancing isn't all about tricks. Movement quality is much more impressive than any turns, flexibility tricks, or acrobatics are. I think I was relitivley successful in doing this, but some people don't care about dance, and that's ok. Overall, I am happy with how this video turned out.
