Our final project was to create an item that would improve someones life. At the end of the quarter, we would present our product in front of other students, teachers, and parents. The goal was for the presentations to be like that of an episode of shark tank. We were put into groups of four based on our personality type. We could make something new, or take something already existing and make it better. My team, team 11, chose to make a pair of headphones that would use heat sensors to detect your mood, and play a song that best matches with your mood. The whole project took the entire length 4th quarter, going through rotations of each teacher. Each rotation as about a week and a half. We faced many challenges on the way, like dividing the work, and getting everything done in our order of rotations. Along the way, I learned what companies have to go through when they make a product, and all the steps and requirements there are. We were given lots of feedback, which was really helpful. Some feedback was that we had too many different things as a part of it, so we took out a couple ideas. I think that my teams work this quarter was exceptional. Everyone did their work, and everyone had a great attitude. I think all of our work looks very clean, and everyone tried their hardest to make everything the best they could.
Using time in class:
Durning class time, we did everything that we wouldn't be able to do at home. We started with the animation rotation. In animation, we made a couple gif advertisements, and a 3D model of where the item would be in a home. DJ and Regan both made a gif, and Jos and I both made a 3D animation, and combined the ideas of both of them. The box of the product in the 3D animation is just a rough idea. After that, we switched to the video rotation. In video, we made a commercial showcasing our product, and what it does. We all used the same footage, but the four of us edited separate commercials. My team ended up voting to use mine on the website. Then, lastly, was the graphic design rotation. In graphic design, we polished our logo, and made it on adobe illustrator. We voted on Regan's logo to be the official one. Then, we made the website. Josh made the website itself. Regan made the coupon, I made the web banner, and DJ made the Ad. To finish it off, we wrote our script for the presentation i the flex theater. When we were finished with something, we asked the others too see if we should make any changes. Then we made those changes. When critiquing our own work, we found lots of little things we had missed the first time.
Strengths:
My strengths are in the video rotation. I am very good at working a tripod, and finding what angle to record something at. I also really enjoy editing. It is very fun for me, and I think I am pretty good at it, too. I would like to get to know Adobe Premier Pro a little better, and work with it more to see all the things I can do to improve my skills. I maximize my strengths by not settling. If I think I have done something good, I won't stop trying to make it better, because it can always be better. I think video is my favorite, because I have loved video since we did 7th grade career cruising and I saw a videographer. I was very inspired by him to join the e-Communication program and make videos of my own.
Improvement:
I think I need improvement in animation and web design. I don't know a lot about photoshop, or all the tools. I also am not the best at web design. I haven't had as much practice with either of them which I think is why I am not as strong in those areas. I am more comfortable using Adobe Premier Pro, and Adobe Illustrator. Everyone has things they excel at, and things the need to work on, and for me, I need to work on my skills with the animation, and web programs.
Summary:
This quarter, I loved being able to make my own product. It was very cool to see the process that one must go through to make a product. They have to have a logo, a slogan, advertisements to show the product, and a website, or a way to show the ads. I really enjoyed in video, learning about the cost of commercials, and what it takes for companies to get their commercial out there. Making a commercial for our product was very fun for me. Next time, I would try to use my time a little better, and fix more of the little things. The overall takeaway I got from this project, was that having a brand, and making a product of your own is hard work. We only had a glimpse into what it is like, and I thought that was hard. I also learned about how you need to be collaborative with your group, so that you work together, and don't have too much work on one person's back. It was very important that we had the work divided equally so that we wouldn't have one person doing more work, and have dded stress on them. Next year, I would like to learn even more about making videos and logos. I would like to be happy with everything I make net year, and not wish I had done something different. I also want to make sure I use my time wisely next year. If I need to come in Raven 50 or before/after school then I will, to make sure I don't feel rushed in class. Overall, I liked this project and I am glad we did it. It taught me lessons in all the branches of e-Comm, and working collaboratively in a group.
For this film reel, I wanted to capture happiness and laughter. I wanted it to overall be a feel good video. For all projects in my film reel, I was the director of photography. Cinematography best represents my brand because I'm very focused on the visual appeal of each shot. I am a perfectionist which helps me to always get the right focus, alignment, and balance. All of the shots in this reel are my best shots. The yellow tones of the lighting help with the happy feel I was trying to convey. For the song, I wanted something that was upbeat and fun to work with the rest giving it good vibes. I tried to only use shots that fit together seamlessly. So I chose the ones most similar in color and style. Next time, I will try to add more variety of what my shots contain. I will try to implement close ups of objects so it's not all people, and work on doing projects with other people to get a variety of different people in my film reel. I will definitely keep the feel ...
Overview In the eCommunications video production strand, our most recent project was an interview. For this project, we got to choose if we wanted to be directors. Everyone who wanted to be one volunteered, and then they got to pick who was on their team. I was in a team with Kensie Likes, Annabelle Glasscock, and Holly McCormick was our Director. We went through the process starting with deciding the topic we wanted to focus on. After brainstorming many ideas, we chose to interview Brooke about when she passed out at homecoming pictures. We wrote out about 20 questions we wanted to ask her, and then thought it would be helpful if we had a witness be interviewed too. We chose Alex Pauli, Brooke's date, to give us his point of view. So, we wrote about 15 questions similar to Brooke's, regarding the same topics. Then, we filmed and edited our interviews. Shooting The process of filming our interviews was actually much more difficult than expected. We had to make sure tha...
Panorama This was our panorama project. It took about a week and a half to complete. Some challenges I faced in creating it were finding the right layout that looked the best, and getting all the pictures to blend seamlessly. Along the way, I learned how to use the eraser tool with different opacities to layer and blend pictures. I also learned how to adjust the brightness of pictures to have them match. I didn't really make any changes from my original idea. Overall, I am really happy with how it turned out. Infographic This was our infographic project. It took about 4 weeks in all to complete. The process included lots of brainstorming and sketches to prepare. When creating this, it was challenging to find a layout that flowed continuously and kept with the theme. Along the way, I learned how to use the pen and pen curve tools. I also learned how to download and install a new font and incorporate it into my design. Compared to my original idea, I didn't chan...
